Sherlock Holmes And The Sound Of The Baskervilles (Two Shades Of Blue)

‘Sherlock Holmes And The Sound Of The Baskervilles’ is the sort of spoof that cries out for overblown, hammy performances but, sadly, only the delightfully rubber faced Gareth Smith as Watson pulls this off, with the remainder of the cast putting in rather insipid turns. The script is similarly patchy, with Watson’s narration and poor literary technique hitting the spot, but the rest of the jokes raising only chuckles where there should be belly laughs and the songs are only mildly, not uproariously, amusing. The central premise – that of Miss Marple framing Watson – is a decent one, and there are glimmers of what this show could have been had it show the required exuberance and wackiness.
