Rites And Regulations (Platform 65)

By | Published on Friday 17 August 2012

‘Rites and Regulations’ is a fascinating look at contemporary Singapore. Platform 65 really immerse their audience in Singaporean culture through their use of multimedia: projections  are cast across the walls giving a real flavour of what life is like in HBD flats (the places 85% of Singaporeans live). The show concerns itself mainly with tradition, and the clash of the old and the new is presently beautifully through an examination of the rituals surrounding the burial of the dead. Occasionally, the script falls back on clichés and dwells on idiosyncrasies which seem a little forced. However, this is remedied by the innovative nature of the play. You will come away with a fresh understanding of everything from Taoist culture to Singapore itself.

Zoo Southside, 3-13 Aug (not 4, 8), 9.00pm.
