Rhinoceros (Theatraverse)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

‘Rhinoceros’ is a surreal piece of theatre which tells the tale of inhabitants of a village that slowly transform into Rhinoceroses. The traverse staged the play in an equal mixture of French and English which added to the disorientating sense of the whole production; it also increased the potential to be distracted as unless you were a native speaker, you had to concentrate. Throughout the play, moments of intense and well executed physical theatre were captivating and very effective, tearing through the language barrier, while the transformation of the cast into Rhinoceroses was eerie not awkward, the stage was sparse but cleverly composed, and the acting was powerful. I’m still not entirely sure what the play is about, but if you’re looking for something different, ‘Rhinoceros’ is for you.

Venue 13, 11-18 Aug (not 13), 8.30pm.
