Operation Stork (Leitheatre)
By Olivia Lyth | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
‘Operation Stork’ is a farcical comedy that centres around an exceptionally dim-witted Private Gregor Campbell and his wife (who never appears on stage) having six babies. The action takes place in the office of Campbell’s CO, which is where his wife delivers her babies (not on stage, thankfully). Despite Leitheatre’s best efforts, this just isn’t a very good play; the jokes are ‘Carry On’-esque, but even less funny – which is quite a feat – while the characters are clichéd and two-dimensional, and the plot is completely aimless. The best that can be said for the production is that the set and costumes are pretty good, and the actors really do try hard. Sadly it isn’t enough to save this from being a terrible show.
St Serf’s Hall, 4-18 Aug, 2.30pm, 7.30pm.
