One Man Lord Of The Rings (Charles Ross)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

There’s no denying that the ‘One Man Lord Of The Rings’ is an impressive feat, nor that Charles Ross is an exceptional talent, but this is a show that never reaches its full potential. Ross is a remarkable performer, physically and vocally capturing characters from the film trilogy with incredible accuracy. However, the show tries to cover everything and, as a result, spreads itself too thin, only finding time to pause for long enough to really work a joke a few times. It’s also too frantic and referential, leaving those without solid knowledge of the films in the dark. Fewer scenes over all, and more meat on those covered would have given Ross’ skills a much better chance to shine.

Underbelly Bristo Square, 14, 16, 20, 22, 24, 26 Aug, 8.55pm.
