Minotaur (Fourth Monkey)
By Nicholas Jones | Published on Tuesday 14 August 2012
The physicality of Minotaur‘s cast was superb and allowed for the creation of a number of very effective set-pieces which took the audience through the myth of Theseus. The challenge of representing the Minotaur on stage was handled deftly and the approach taken did a good job of capturing the beast’s powerful presence. However, the real stars of the show were Spyros Giasafakis’ and Evi Stergiou’s score as well as Pablo Fernandez Baz’s lighting design, which served to amplify the intensity of the cast’s performance extraordinarily. The only notable problem with this production was the often awkward way in which many of the actors spoke, which led to a few audience members giggling at the somewhat wooden delivery and occasional mispronunciation.
theSpace on Niddry St, 2-25 Aug (odd dates), 5.45pm.
