Macbeth (As Told By with Greenwich Theatre)

By | Published on Friday 24 August 2012

A tough battle is being fought to take the crown for the Fringe 2012’s seminal performance of Scotland’s most famous tragedy, Macbeth. Greenwich’s Theatre’s production is lively and important. Minimal staging heaps audience considerations directly onto the acting talent available on stage, and the cast are duly excellent, with specific mentions going to the actors playing Macbeth and his treacherous wife, both of which give stunningly executed performances with a chilling sense of purpose felt throughout. As Told By’s production is staged in the midst of the Second World War, but this concept is never particularly well built upon by a production which focuses far more on the traditional considerations of the work and less on modern aesthetics. Still, the acting is superb, aided by a production which has integrity.
