Little Women (Epsom Players)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Am-dram group Epsom Players’ ambitious production of Louisa May Alcott’s classic coming-of-age novel is lengthy, but engaging. However, I spent a great deal of time bobbing from side to side to see the action; poorly arranged seating meant that the audience were forced to sway back and forth to see. Overbearing Aunt March, in the style of Lady Bracknell, manages to shine in almost every scene she is in; her disproving looks are enough to raise a giggle. It is a demanding play, though; sustaining an American tongue for the duration proved a little too much for some cast members (slipping from stateside to southwest in the turn of a phrase), although most noble efforts were made by all.
