Les Impossibles (At Large Theatre Company)
By Stephanie Taylor | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
The cast of ‘Les Impossibles’ attempts to ironically and self-referentially explore the mind of aspiring actors, but instead it just feels as though they have written a show about and for themselves. Comprising of a cacophony of different theatrical styles, this means the content and humour is somewhat exclusive to dramatists, leaving those who can’t follow their references utterly bewildered. The use of black masks and the ‘Mission Impossible’ theme tune at random intervals during the show is clearly a nod to the characters’ ambitions to achieve the impossible and become professional performers, but it jars horribly with the rest of the already confusing narrative. Promising acting in an unfortunately otherwise hopeless production.
