Influence (Furness Influence)
By Thom May | Published on Monday 20 August 2012
Influence is performed by a newly-formed theatre company from the Sixth Form College in Barrow-in-Furness. Though there are many university drama societies up at the fringe, it’s unusual to see a college company, and it’s a brave choice on the part of students and teachers alike. The topic is predictable, taking its starting point from Philip Larkin’s ‘This Be The Verse’ (“They f**k you up, your mum and dad…”), but the performers move smoothly and professionally between the various skits, and the staging of the physical theatre wouldn’t look out of place in more experienced productions. These young actors work hard and seem to enjoy themselves, so the group have set an excellent precedent for future fringe productions.
