ED2012 2/5 Reviews ED2012 Theatre Reviews
HURT (Aztikeria Teatro)
By Patricia-Ann Young | Published on Monday 20 August 2012
Is there such a thing as car crash theatre? Melanie Borgez, the actress in this one woman show, treats us to forty five minutes of an all dancing, all singing, all screaming and crying mental breakdown. She moans about how people say she’s too skinny and comment on how big her boobs are (cry me a river, Mel!) But it was when she started pretending to masturbate with a Barbie doll that bums began to leave seats rather earlier than planned. Oh, I know this is supposed to be uncomfortable viewing, that we should feel the “emotional intensity” of Borgez’s performance, but it all just seemed unintentionally hilarious. Ah well, at least I enjoyed it somehow, right?
