How To Climb Mount Everest (Autojeu Theatre)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Autojeu Theatre are all about having fun. With a silly, slapdash performance style that’s equal parts Monty Python and the Chuckle Brothers, they set out to explain the meaning of life through the story of a bored office worker going mountaineering. At times it’s like watching children playing. The two performers rush around the space making whooshing noises, evidently enjoying themselves with inventive mimes, pratfalls and ad-libs poking fun at the limitations of both form and budget. While their gags elicit as many groans as laughs, and the general chaos is sometimes overwhelming, this is daft, good natured stuff. Though it’s not the funniest, slickest or most sophisticated of shows, there’s a joyful naivety to it that’s quite endearing.
