Grace! (M+E Theatre)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

An interesting concept with original compositions and some funny moments, ‘Grace!’ is a take on the Christian redemption story from Creation to Jesus’s sacrifice. This play is part of the Festival Of Spirituality And Peace and suits the venue of St John’s Church perfectly. The music is uncomplicated and pretty, the actress’s dancing is lovely as well, while Grace – more narrator than superhero (no capes, spandex, masks or cheesy catch lines) – and Gabriel (the sidekick) do well in conveying the story with the aid of two younger kids. Occasionally it’s a little confusing, and I admit to still being puzzled as to the significance of the painting throughout the performance, but no one can doubt the cast’s enthusiasm for the subject.
