Frontline (Z Theatre Company)

Z Theatre Company present an interpretive piece that is as piercingly relevant as it is poignant: age-old dealings with warfare are presented amongst a transcendent framework of wrought interpersonal relations. ‘Frontline’ examines wartime’s effects on relationships and the individuals within them, shifting from symbolic interpretive dance to music; a folk guitar solo was particularly affecting, performed under a single spotlight. A powerful representation of mankind at war is devised intelligently with two torches on a blackened stage: another example of shimmering experimentalism. The concentration on homoerotic tendencies in the trenches is boldly staged, and raises questions about this and other issues for discussion. This young cast’s stylish production perfectly complements its themes of identity, companionship and liberation.
