Fat Joe’s Chicken Shack (Noonday Demons)

By | Published on Monday 20 August 2012

In Fat Joe’s Chicken Shack (a name with seemingly no relevance to the play aside from a passing mention), the 21st century world is bursting with inequality, an environment that corporations thrive in and happily exploit, with the English Premier League among the worst. Documenting the story of an advertising firm’s campaign for a top footballer and the implications that ensue, it emphasises the profit-fuelled and seemingly conscious-free nature of modern corporations. At times, Noonday Demons’ narrative is confusing and the rapid scene changes can be hard to follow. Unfortunately this young troupe, although well-rehearsed, were let down a few bad performances.
