Fables Here And Then (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Ciara Knowles | Published on Monday 20 August 2012
Ever heard of how the snake lost his voice? Or the Japanese tale of an enchanting silver bell? Relax and enjoy as this American High School create – in a charmingly simple manner – an eclectic mix of fables spanning centuries and continents. Gently punctuated with live music, there is a purity in the uncomplicated but clever way in which these ageless tales are told (‘The Bremen Town Musicians’ is a particular treat). Although the use of physical theatre in the performance is mostly strong, at times, the cast’s excitement and energy seemed to flag a little. However, if productions like this continue, these lively fables will surely continue to be shared throughout time.
Church Hill Theatre, 8-11 Aug (not 9), times vary.
