Endure – A Run Woman Show (Collision Productions)

By | Published on Thursday 23 August 2012

Done with social schmoozing and cocktail parties amongst New York’s trendies, writer and performer Melanie Jones literally takes her audience for a ride; unleashing her angst through a symbolic marathon run. The show is too often preachy and reliant on a narrative which seems like a genuine unleashing of frustration without any consideration for its place on the theatrical landscape. Her anger is awkward, although Jones sees it as artistic expression. Perhaps this is a translation issue; the show epitomises Apple-Pie Americana. Conceptually the work is accessibly daring, as audience members physically follow Jones around Edinburgh, in an innovative and exciting performance medium, but at times ‘A Run Woman Show’ seems naïve amongst the cultural myriad that is the Fringe.

Assembly, 9-19 Aug (not 13, 14), 2.00pm.
