Dream Plays – Scenes From A Play I’ll Never Write (Traverse Theatre Company)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

This isn’t one play, it’s a series, each one on in the morning, and there’s little information available about them beforehand. It’s a good way to warm up for a day at the festival, however. The show I saw was a study of loneliness: three people, each one lonely, all trapped in a dreamlike, unsettling state, discuss what it means. It’s neat and clever, insightful in places, and touching in others, managing the odd feat of making the world feel very scary at the same time as proving that we’re unquestionably not alone in what we feel. The three characters have a strange, but believable and warm relationship, and the writing captures the dream like state of friendships formed in dreams.

Traverse Theatre, 14-26 Aug (not 20), 9.00am.
