Dream On (Side By Side Theatre Company Stourbridge)
By Andrew Bell | Published on Thursday 23 August 2012
‘Dream On’ is a modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ably performed by Side By Side’s cast of adults with learning disabilities. As is always the case with the Dream, the Fairies and the Mechanicals get all the best bits – with Ben Rees as the swaggering Puck and Mark Slater as the long suffering Oberon excelling on the Fairy side and Paul Taylor’s Max hamming it up delightfully. However, a few of the dance routines go on a bit and the play feels about twenty minutes too long as result and the lovers get the short end of the script. Funny, charming, but a bit too long.
Paradise in Augustine’s, 14-18 Aug, 11.20am.
