Doctor Faustus (EGTG)

By | Published on Monday 20 August 2012

Doctor Faustus desires money, power, knowledge, love and sex – don’t we all? But we don’t all sell our soul to the devil to achieve this. Dr. Faustus agrees to an eternity burning in Hell in exchange for a mere twenty-four years of pleasure on Earth, unleashing a battle between Lucifer and God for his soul, nicely represented by the good angel and the fallen one situated on either side of the audience. The acting is convincing and enthusiastic, and the costumes and set changes are slick. At times the actors talk over each other, which, although done for effect, can make things hard to interpret. The plot is also quite repetitive. Still, it’s an innovative new interpretation.

The Royal Scots Club, 8-11 Aug, 6.15pm.
