Country Air – A Contemporary Ghost Story (Mere Anarchy)

By | Published on Wednesday 15 August 2012

Classic ghost stories; there’s nothing like the chills up your spine, the crescendo of suspense and panic, and the ultimate fear realised. With a panache that would make many more seasoned playwrights sick with envy, eloquent dialogue and a punchy script is wonderfully crafted by this young playwright. Simple staging proves effective and serves the cast well as they effectively highlight the idiosyncrasies of each character, and in particular their comic traits. It’s not overly macabre or even utterly petrifying, but gives you the right kick of adrenaline that your appetite for the ghoulish craves. And as you sit in the darkened theatre watching this tale unfurl, each time you see something in your periphery, you will flinch.
