Chicken Bones For The Teenage Soup (American High School Theatre Festival)
By Charlotte Ryan | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Chiawana High School bring us this production from Washington state as part of the Fringe’s American High School Theatre Festival. As most of the kids are high school seniors or recent graduates, it’s an amateur production, but charmingly so. Made up of a series of short sketches which parody the ridiculous optimism of the popular book ‘Chicken Soup For The Teenage Soul’, the characters repeatedly find their spirits crushed in this antidote to American cheerleading. All of the cast members play a variety of different characters well, but it is Euan Edrington, the youngest member of the cast, and graduate Zach Buhler whose comic timing stand out. A good attempt at satire that translates well to a British audience.
