Born To Run (Oran Mor supported by the National Theatre of Scotland)

Though it’s emotional and original in concept, this play doesn’t say much beyond the obvious: a woman runs continuously on a treadmill and reflects on her life, specifically the discovery of her epilepsy, and the impact it’s had on her and her family. Despite that though, it’s a fun way to spend an hour, and you’re unlikely to see anything like it anywhere else. This type of one person play hangs on the actor’s performance and Shauna Macdonald manages to make the character seem real; she’s funny, but using humour to deny the severity of her situation, selfish in places, and overall, human. While in the writing is nothing conceptually new, it’s done well; convincingly acted and with an original set design.

Traverse Theatre, 21-26 Aug, 5.30pm.
