Big Sean, Mikey And Me (Ruaraidh Murray)
By Roz Tuplin | Published on Monday 13 August 2012
The story of a life spent running with the rough crowd in Edinburgh and beyond, this one-man show is full of heart and never too charged with bravado. It’s a story from the point of view of the scared little boy inside every big man of the street, and recollections of school days are interspersed with memories of visiting friends in prison. It’s not a bleak piece at all, in fact mostly it is riotously funny, though darker themes emerge, of course. A pleasing motif is Ruaraidh’s conversations with ‘Big Sean’, his childhood hero turned imaginary friend, making a focal point for this entertaining illustration of a young man’s struggle to find a male role model. Moving, funny and full of impact.
