Berlin Cabaret (Threesome Theatre)
By Veronika Kallus | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Willkommen. The girls are dancing, waiting, singing for you. The boys will play and cry their hearts out. The doctor is ready. And me, let me be your guide through this night of ‘Berlin Cabaret’. In here, it does not matter who you are! Threesome Theatre offer an inspired attempt to recreate what Berlin entertainment might have been like in the 1930s, with a daring, brave choice of songs and sequences, both provoking and sarcastic. Though somehow a certain knowing wink was missing, which would have drawn a clearer line between seriousness and irony; and judging from audience response, some in there possibly didn’t really ‘get’ what they were applauding and cheering to. But then again, maybe that’s the very point of cabaret.
