Baby With The Bathwater (Orion’s Belt)
By Pallavi Patel | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Even with the best of intentions, parenting can sometimes produce disastrous results. Unfortunately, so can theatre. Baby With The Bathwater aims to tell an absurdist, funny tale of two parents, one nanny and one brand-new baby with no idea what it’s in for. But the bizarrely concocted storyline and cartoonish, overblown characters entirely fail to achieve their goal of edgy satire. Introducing more and more characters as we follow the child through to adulthood, through a very long hour and a half, we lose any initial brief moments of humour and any will to care about what’s going on. Baffling at best and disturbing at worst, this performance left me feeling almost as traumatised as its unfortunate protagonist.
