Anything But (A One-Woman Play) (KCHG Productions)

By | Published on Monday 13 August 2012

Agnes is struggling to overcome the death of her father, or more accurately, to overcome the forced social interactions at the funeral. Her life is defined by a series of awkward incidents, with witty anecdotes, a warm self-deprecation and a love of cheesy snacks in between. Comprising many small sketches, the play has an overarching narrative that wavers between comedy and tragedy, and in general, it works well. However, while Agnes’s nervous mannerisms and self-conscious timidity are ultimately endearing, they stifles the delivery of many lines, leaving the audience mostly unaffected by what should be hilarious and memorable material.

Pleasance Courtyard, 5-27 Aug, 2.00pm.
