A Streetcar Named Desire (American High School Theatre Festival)

By | Published on Monday 20 August 2012

Tennessee Williams’s sultry classic was brought to life surprisingly well by this bunch of American high school students. The young cast handle the material nicely, and their passionate and heartfelt performances are a pleasure to watch. Tlalli Moya-Smith is wonderful as Blanche, expertly capturing the complexity of the woman, as well as having impeccable comic timing while Augie Grahn is a formidable Stanley, dominating the stage whenever he appears. If this were staying longer, I’d be telling you not to be put off by this being an amateur, school show; it’s the charm of the Festival that we get to see small productions like these, and here’s proof that it’s worth straying from the mainstream.
