A Cry Too Far From Heaven (Invers Theatre)

By | Published on Saturday 11 August 2012

Would you pull the trigger if you knew the prisoner’s full story? In this theatrical production from New Zealand, two people await their executions, one for deserting the army in World War One, the other for murdering children in the late 1800s. Both tell their stories on the last night of their lives, yet it is for the audience to decide if they are innocent or not. All three actors deliver spectacular performances conveying the pain and confusion of awaiting execution. The play is short at only 50 minutes long and should be longer, to allow for more exposition of the executioner’s background, even if her story is a little slow. Despite this, the play provides a provocative look at the death penalty.
