Arabella Weir, Comedians Theatre Company: Quick Quiz

Arabella Weir

Perhaps best known for her ‘Fast Show’ appearances, though, of course, having also appeared in a plethora of other TV shows over the years, comedy actress and author Arabella Weir is joining Phil Nichol, Mike McShane, Jan Ravens, Aisling Bea and Waen Shepherd for this year’s big production from the Comedians Theatre Company.
“A series of explosive revelations unravel the brutal truth behind a cycle of abuse” in ‘The Intervention’, a new play by Fringe First winning Dave Florez. We put the Quick Quiz questions to Weir.

TW: Tell us about your 2012 show in no more than 60 words.
AW: It’s funny, very dark, brilliantly written and, best of all, only 75 minutes long! It’s got fantastic performers in it, if I say so myself, and we’re all comic actors so we should be able to wring the laughs out of every second without resorting to silly faces and prat falls (although we’ve got them to fall back on if all else fails, eh?).

TW: Tell us about another show or performer you’re looking forward to seeing this year.
AW: There’s loads of acts I’m looking forward to seeing – I’m really looking forward to seeing Mrs Barbara Nice (at The Assembly Rooms) – I LOVE her.

TW: How will you be preparing for the Fringe this year?
AW: What? Preparing for the fringe?! I’m not Ben Kingsley “on an actor’s journey of stagecraft”! I’m pretending to be someone else, that’s what actors do, so no preparation necessary, thanks very much.

TW: What advice would you have for someone coming to the Fringe for the first time?
AW: Make sure you’ve got somewhere to stay, don’t drink so much that you can’t remember where it is and remember that while it’s a lot of fun this isn’t real life – performers don’t all live in the same square mile admiring each other’s work night and day.

TW: If your show was an Olympic sport, what would it be and why?
AW: Definitely a relay race, because for the performers it’s all about ‘passing the baton’, there’s no one star, all seven actors are on stage the whole time, and each of us has their own moment. So we’re all on, in every sense of the word, from the get-go. And if one of us falls down the whole show goes up in smoke.

The Comedians Theatre Company’s show ‘The Intervention’ was performed at The Assembly Rooms at Fringe 2012.
