A one-man physical performance of one of history’s greatest femme fatales relocated to China. It is based on Wilde’s play, depicting Salome’s love for John the Baptist, which ends with his beheading. The temptress dances immaculate classical Chinese dances, which only adds to the seduction; the long sleeve dance is delicate yet strong, the fan dance flirtatious, but of course, the dance of the seven veils – translated as a ribbon dance – is spellbinding. The actor switches so seamlessly between characters that you could believe there were more people on stage. The pinnacle is when he swaps between holding a sword and playing delicately with a long sleeve to portray the two main protagonists behind a red silk screen; captivating.
