Power Shuffle (Voice Box Physical Theatre Company)
By Jo Barrow | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
The concept behind ‘Power Shuffle’ is an interesting one. Alice (of Wonderland fame) encounters the Joker, who challenges her to a brutal game, pitting card against card in violent combat. The Jack, Queen, King and Ace are the stars here. As they are selected by the two players, they launch against one another gracefully and powerfully, enthralling the audience with the ease with which they contort and intertwine their bodies. The cast, especially Suzanne Enoch and Ben Collis, are quietly confident in their extraordinary abilities. However, the meaninglessness of the script means that really Power Shuffle is really just a showcase for the brilliant malleability of the human body – but that’s no bad thing.
