Pinocchio – Adventures In The Metropolis (ReShape Theatre)
By Joanna Gill | Published on Wednesday 22 August 2012
Pinocchio comes of age in the modern world of £1 sambuca shots with no strings attached. This charming piece of puppet theatre is well-conceived family fun, with the scenery and the puppet itself providing a modern, pared down city feel. Hats off to the young cast, one of whom must slide with a mini-skateboard attached to their knee to manipulate the life-size wooden boy who cannot help but lie. The actors taunt and tease our long-nosed anti-hero as he tries to find his way in this unforgiving world. Though made of the stuff, Pinocchio’s acting was far from wooden. There were some lapses in rhythm between pieces, but overall an entertaining update to a fantastic fairytale.
