ED2012 5/5 Reviews ED2012 Dance & Physical Theatre Reviews
Leigh Warren + Dancers (Edinburgh International Festival)
By Lisa Clarkson | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Hours after seeing this show, I am still struggling to express how I feel about it. The first piece, ‘Breathe’ was erotic, deeply sensuous; glistening male bodies, ethereal twins wrapped in reams of gauze, pulling and pushing, only to be elevated; a figurative ribcage, rising and falling to a pulsing score by a barefoot William Barton. The frizzy head in front of me, the stroppy teenager I was trapped beside; they disappeared as my vision, my senses were stolen. Impulse however, ruined me. The spectacle, the stark imagery, Nyman’s strings, the watery blooms of green, gripped me so hard I felt tears soak my face. Finding words to describe and lavish appropriate prose upon it is beyond me, I’ll admit.
Festival Theatre, 25-26 Aug, times vary.
