A woman explores the 21st Century’s lack of laughter in a seaweed green tutu, walking listlessly across the stage. A cool young guy explores his identity with the aid of electronic talking devices and sparse movement. A drunk man pursues a teasing female in a South Korean take on Benny Hill. Next, a man is curled on the floor, and as the music of Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ begins he starts popping and locking. Yes, this is as bizarre and obscure as it sounds, but definitely worth a watch, just to step out of the ordinary and see a South Korean cultural export. Though I’m not sure how representative this is of Korean contemporary dance, it’s certainly diverse.
