ED2012 4/5 Reviews ED2012 Dance & Physical Theatre Reviews
I Am Son (Sanpapie)
By Joe Mountford-Smith | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
This artistic piece of physical theatre was a real breath of fresh air for me. Three dancers worked hard to create a dynamic atmosphere, engaging you from the moment the movement began. A fascinating blend of projected words, thundering stylish music and varying intensities of movement attempted to elegantly express Sanpapie’s understanding of our birthright. Existentialist ideas about identity were also conveyed in a performance that offered both heavier, thought-provoking moments and some lighter playful interaction between performers. I did feel these dancers had more physical ability than was perhaps actually demonstrated in this act but, nonetheless, this was an enlightening cultural display.
