For their Fringe debut, Durham-based student theatre company Rag & Bone Productions combine theatre and movement to recreate the Ancient Greek myth of Echo and Narcissus. With great diction, and a strong command of their bodies, they convey the underlying themes of this fated tale – jealousy, vanity, pride – with conviction and flair, but the frequent delivery of synchronised speech becomes a little monotonous. This minor detail could be resolved if the lines were more evenly distributed across the cast or perhaps if the narrator became a more exclusive role, rather than drifting in and out of the chorus. However, the collaborative nature of this production, and indeed the company, is commendable; a promising start for these young performers.
