The Showstoppers’ Family Matinees (Showstopper Productions / Festival Highlights)
By Lia Sanders | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
The celebrated Showstoppers’ latest venture is intended to appeal to the family market; but no one seems to have told the mainly adult audience that. The troupe try very hard to engage the few children there: making one the star of the show, performed by one of the “tall, bearded men”, is excellent but may make some of the others feel left out. Showstoppers can think up musicals at the drop of a jazz shoe, even attempting to mimic the several suggested musical styles, but the best bits are when they mess with each other, picking up on each other’s mistakes. A splendid show, but they may have to bar the door to unaccompanied adults if they want to appeal to children.
