Streets The Musical (by Finn Anderson)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Young people take crime into the streets in ‘Streets The Musical’, a play which follows a group of adolescents as they become involved with under-age drinking, drug dealing, teenage pregnancy, truancy, murder and anger issues. Though the play successfully incorporates masses of teenage angst, it does so without enough back-story, almost as though the teenagers naturally engage in trouble just because they can. Meanwhile, the acting is mixed, and parts of the story are a bit muddled and vague. But all that said, the music here is the driving force behind the play; it is entertaining and the songs are deep and poetic. And even with its flaws, ‘Streets The Musical’ makes you think seriously about the reasons behind the crime rates on our streets.
