Kiss Of The Red Menace – A Tribute To Kander And Ebb (Kerry Hodgkin and Ladyblue Music/ PBH’s Free Fringe)

By | Published on Friday 31 August 2012

Cabaret singer Melody La Rouge performs the best of Kander and Ebb’s music in ‘Kiss of the Red Menace’. Bursting with razzle dazzle, La Rouge tells us the story of John Kander and Fred Ebb’s musical collaboration, and their involvement with Broadway stars like Liza Minnelli and Chita Rivera. The song list is well-chosen, albeit a little too long, and La Rouge incorporates her mix of dance and acting so it feels as though she is recreating each role for us. While her singing is usually excellent, she does have trouble hitting the high notes at the end of the songs, yet she manages to incorporate her own spin on this. For a free show, this is well worth attending – and all that jazz.

GHQ, 19-25 Aug, 7.35pm.
