I Got It – An Actor’s Tale (SMILE-N Productions)
By Hannah Sweetnam | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Guy is an aspiring actor; follow his career through the bad and the good, the jazz hands and the misery, in ‘I Got It – An Actor’s Tale’. This musical debut, written by leading man Marc Mackinnon, showcases some of Edinburgh’s fantastic young talent. Entertaining from start to finish, this whimsical and lyrically excellent piece of writing had the audience both chuckling and welling up, with stand-out performances from Kat Townsend as burlesque dancer Roz, and Thomas Doherty as distinctly English Eugene. There was the occasional blip and some clunky transitions from song to dialogue, but what musical is flawless on the first night? Dreams, deaths and mended friendships; with some fine-tuning, this underdog story could be the next ‘Rent’.
