ED2012 3/5 Reviews ED2012 Musical Reviews
Godspell (Glenalmond College)
By Katie Cunningham | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
‘Godspell’ is a difficult musical to do right. It doesn’t have a typical structure, it relies on the audience being able and willing to enjoy symbolic parables, and its success or failure lies entirely in how strong the performances are. If you’re looking for a good version, you could certainly do worse than this production: the singing is strong, the acting is good, and, maybe most importantly, the actors are enthusiastic, which really helps bring the parables to life. It’s especially impressive knowing that they’re so young. Truth be told, I’ve never thought this to be the best musical in the world, but delivered like this, it’s still a pretty good show. And if you want to support young actors, then tick that box and have some fun to boot.
