ED2012 5/5 Reviews ED2012 Musical Reviews
Departure Lounge (InStep Theatre)
By Anna McDonald | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Imagine ‘The Inbetweeners Movie’. Now imagine it as a musical. That’s a pretty fair summation of ‘Departure Lounge’, and it is absolutely hilarious. Four teenage boys are delayed in the airport on the return leg of their lads’ holiday and they use those few hours to discuss girls and just exactly what happened in between the drinking and vomiting. The cast are outstanding: incredible performances in their solo numbers are matched with some beautiful harmonies, all complete with impeccable comic timing and some clever choreography. It’s not all laughs though. Everyone is struggling with a little inner secret and is coaxed into sharing them by the mysterious Sophie, played by the fabulous Hayley Hampson. Fresh, and brilliantly delivered.
Paradise in Augustine’s, 7-19 Aug (not 13), 10.30pm.
