Music For All (Spirit Of Love)
By Lewis Wade | Published on Friday 17 August 2012
This show is not ‘music for all’, rather, it is monotonously mediocre covers of old standards. The folksy duo plod their way through a number of ‘classics’, such as ‘Kumbayah’, occasionally pausing to offer a little trivia or tell a corny joke. The pace is slow and the songs are simple; though it is unlikely the group would be perturbed by such criticism. The trite choice of songs perfectly complements the quaint nature of the show. This is music suited for a village fête, but in the context of the fringe the lack of dynamism becomes painfully jarring. It isn’t bad music, but it is a band and a sound firmly entrenched in the homely folk scene of yesteryear.
