ED2012 5/5 Reviews ED2012 Music Reviews
Mull Historical Society (Festival Of Politics)
By Joanna Gill | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Mull is famous for its cheddar and otters, and Colin MacIntyre is as tasty and endearing as both. In what could have been an inhospitable atmosphere for music (the Scottish Parliament), MacIntyre created an intimacy within minutes. The set list was a chronological journey through MHS’s evolution; with just two acoustic guitars for company he explained it was an attempt to “strip down (but not literally)”. Introducing each song with an anecdote about its genesis, he captivated the audience with tales of Janis Joplin’s car at a New York recording studio and his great grandmother’s WW1 boyfriend. From anthem to lullaby, MacIntyre claimed the night, but made sure everyone got a piece. Gigs like this are rare.
Scottish Parliament, 24 Aug, 6.30pm.
