John Hunt Four O’Clock Afternoon Blues And Swing (John Hunt / 21st Century Blues Legends)
By Lewis Wade | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
DIY musician John Hunt has brought his home-made guitars and unique style back to the Fringe. Kitted out in his white trilby and vest, Hunt sits on the stage as the audience enters, casually nattering away, swigging his beer and giving just a glimpse into his eccentric persona; some may say his banter between songs is quirky, but it’s generally just insane. However, musically, Hunt is an engaging and skilled performer. His mastery of the slide guitar props up his songs in lieu of their vacuous lyrics. But as undeniably impressive as he is, Hunt’s sound is somewhat one-dimensional. The show is worth seeing purely for curiosity’s sake, but only blues guitar aficionados are guaranteed a good time.
