Jazz Lunchtime, Jazz Dinnertime (Ian Millar And Dominic Spencer)
By Lewis Wade | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
After six years playing at the Radisson Blu Hotel this duo have become very comfortable, and in this case that can only be a bad thing. Jazz standards and originals are performed to a reasonable standard but there is very little spark or vitality from the duo. The pair are accompanied by a video slide-show of perfectly bucolic scenes that are unfortunately reminiscent of a computer screen-saver, and also help to negate any authentic jazz vibes in the room. Live music while dining is pleasant enough but the amount of atmosphere generated by this band was no more than what the Dickson’s bar already possessed, or what could have been achieved with a ‘Best Of Jazz’ CD.
Radisson Blu Hotel, 1-27 Aug, 12.30pm, 7.00pm.
