Go To The Devil And Shake Yourself (PBH’s Free Fringe)
By Lauren Simpson | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Don’t be fooled by the sinister show title, this show is purely folk music infused with history. Sergeant Buzfuz presents his musical offering in the intimate setting of Ryan’s Bar; he’s normally accompanied by a full band but appears alone tonight simply with a backing vocalist. He carefully guides his engaged audience through the history of the first fourteen centuries of the papacy with cleverly written songs and witty remarks. Sadly the last song, begging the audience for money after the show, does slightly lower the tone of an otherwise insightful evening. If you’re not familiar with this era then it could be hard to keep up, but for any history buffs out there this is one history lesson you won’t want to miss.
Ryan’s Cellar Bar, 4-19 Aug, 10.30pm.
