Chosen Melody – The Shine (The Shine)
By Dave Fargnoli | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
Sounding like every band you’ve ever heard playing in the corner of a pub, The Shine are a five man pop-folk outfit with a genial but generic style. This set showcases their compositions, and almost all of their material is original, even if it doesn’t sound it. Each band member gives a solid performance, and they utilise two vocalists to maximise the melodic range of their music. You might hope that with so many guitars on the stage the tunes would have more depth and texture, but this isn’t about complexity. These are straightforward tracks, strummed to get feet tapping, and in that they’re a success. Given the option, though, you’d probably choose to hear something less ordinary.
