The Not Quite Quartet
By Lia Sanders | Published on Friday 31 August 2012
That would be 50% of a quartet to be precise: Ricky Tart does the singing and the stand-up, while Dale Campbell plucks and slaps at his guitar in a way that, I must admit, dazzled me. They’re the sort of guys you’d happily have a drink with; the warmth of Tart’s personality as he interacts with us creates a friendly atmosphere from the start, meaning that the audience feels genuinely glad to be here. It’s friendliness, therefore, rather than the richness of observational comedy, that sustains the breaks between the songs. They, meanwhile, are witty, bizarre, informative and strangely moving, while the ending offers perhaps the best use of an iPhone I’ve ever seen.
